The State Oil & Gas Board of Alabama (OGB) is a regulatory agency of the State of Alabama with the statutory charge of preventing waste and promoting the conservation of oil and gas while insuring the protection of both the environment and the correlative rights of owners. The OGB is granted broad authority in Alabama oil and gas conservation statutes to promulgate and enforce rules and regulations to ensure the conservation and proper development of Alabama's petroleum resources, as well as environmental data, for industry, government, and the public. The OGB is the repository for all files containing permitting data, engineering data, production data, environmental data, base maps, and legal proceedings pertaining to oil and gas wells and fields. The OGB's GIS will provide the public and other state and federal agencies with a fully integrated, complete set of GIS shapefiles to aid in the regulation of and eduction about oil and gas exploration activities in Alabama.
